San Jacinto Peak loop from Idyllwild

16.6 mile loop from Deer Springs Trail Head to San Jacinto Peak, and back down through Wellman Divide and the PCT. Optional 2.6 mile out-and-back to Suicide Rock on the way down. See link to All Trails below. If you message me, I'll send a GPX file.

This is a tough climb with over 5k feet climbing in 8 miles, no water on the trail, and dry high altitude air. Be prepared with food and water for 4-6 hours. Likely to be in the 60's at the trail head in the morning and in 70's near the peak, but should be in the 90's on the last few miles coming back down.

A day use permit to hike is required. You can pick one up 24/7 at the ranger station at 54270 Pine Crest Avenue in Idyllwild. You pass it on the way to the trail head. If you sign up and I confirm with you on Friday, I will get a group permit. If I have not confirmed with you, please stop and get your own permit. They are free.

No permit is required to park at the Deer Springs trail head. Parking is limited. There are also a few spots west of the trail head. Parking at the visitor center across the street is not free and the museum doesn't open until 9 am, so probably not an option.

DO NOT take hwy 74 from Hemet. Access is limited with a pilot car. Plan on taking 79/371/74 from Temecula to Idyllwild.

Feet on the trail at 5 am. Arrive early enough to be ready.
