In conjunction with the Lakeside River Park Conservancy (LRPC), the San Diego Ultrarunning Friends (SURF) is pleased to announce and host the 1st Annual River Park Ultras as a benefit to support the LRPC. All profits will be donated to this wonderful organization which is dedicated to preservation management of wildlife and lands within their sanctuary.
The River Park Ultras offers the following events:
A Last Person Standing (Backyard Ultra) starting Friday, July 31 at 6:00 pm.
This event requires runners cover 4 miles each hour to remain in the race. Each hour a new race will start at the top of the hour.
Any runner finishing a lap within one hour is eligible to continue for the next hour’s lap. Any runner not in the corral for the next hour’s lap is ineligible to continue and will retire.
The course is a flat path which is 2.0 miles out to a turnaround checkpoint and then 2.0 miles back to the start.
The last person to finish a loop under an hour (when all others have retired), is recognized as the Last Person Standing Winner.
All participants will receive recognition for how many total miles they covered when they retired.
Distance Medals awarded for covering 50K (8 loops), 50 Miles (13 loops), 100K (16 loops), and 100 miles (25 loops).
Runners are encouraged to have a small tent or pop up with chair or cot in order to rest, replenish, and prepare to start each subsequent loop each hour.
The Last Person Standing event will end after 40 hours, at 10am on Sunday (160 miles). Any runners completing their 40th loop will be considered tied for the win.
The 6, Hour, 12 Hour, and 24 Hour Races start Saturday, Aug 1 at 7:30 am.
These are timed races on the same 2 mile out and 2 mile back path as the Last Person Standing event. Runners’ distances (# of loops) are tracked and timed at the completion of each loop. The total distance for each runner is calculated at how many completed loops were finished at the end of 6,12, or 24 hours. Runners will not receive distance for portions of their last loop when the time limit has expired.
Runners are encouraged to have a small tent or pop up with chair or cot in order to rest and replenish as needed.
There is plenty of room for RV’s and van camping at the start / finish area.
There will be a major aid station at the start area with typical ultra running fare to include water, electrolyte drink, ice, gels, sweet and salty foods, soft drinks, and hot food/drinks for night time. The turnaround at 2 miles will have water, electrolyte drink and ice.
